Iznate Town Council has begun works to divide the supply network into independent sectors. With an investment of €66,898.64, the project aims to isolate breakdowns and avoid general cuts.
The Iznate Town Council has launched works to sectorise the municipal drinking water supply network, an action aimed at improving the functioning of the pipelines and reducing the impact of breakdowns on the nearly one thousand residents registered. The project, funded through the Provincial Plan for Assistance and Cooperation of the Málaga Provincial Council, has an investment of €66,898.64.
The works consist of the installation of pressure regulators and new shut-off valves at various points in the urban area. With this intervention, the network will be divided into several sectors that can operate and be controlled independently, facilitating maintenance work and speeding up the response to any incidents.
The main objective is to ensure that a localized breakdown does not require the interruption of supply throughout the municipality. With the new configuration, workers will be able to close only the affected sector while the breakdown is repaired, keeping the rest of the network in service, as explained by the Town Council on its social media.
The work will also help regulate pressures in the pipelines. The Town Council believes that the new equipment will reduce the pressure reaching certain meters and private installations, as well as optimize distribution and move towards a more efficient management of drinking water.
In dispersed areas, differences in elevation and the configuration of the network can cause pressure variations. Therefore, the Town Council has especially recommended that homeowners in these areas have regulating tanks, both to stabilize supply and to protect internal installations.
During the coming days, the execution of the works will involve temporary supply cuts in some areas of Iznate. The Town Council has apologised in advance to residents for any inconvenience that may arise.
The sectorisation involves dividing an currently interconnected network into several controllable areas via valves. Thus, in the event of a breakage or maintenance intervention, it will be possible to isolate a specific section without affecting other streets, while improving pressure control and the overall functioning of the system.
The Town Council has defended in its statement that this is a "necessary" action to have a "more efficient, safe, and future-ready supply network." Among the attributed benefits are better distribution, greater capacity to handle incidents, and a more rational management of water.
While the works are ongoing, the Town Council will maintain warnings about possible punctual interruptions and has insisted on the recommendation for regulating tanks for homes in dispersed areas.
