Málaga Provincial Council allocates €340,466.79 to improve drainage and road safety on the MA-3108 road, which connects Benamargosa and Cútar. The works include 2,400 metres of ditches and about 3,000 metres of metal barriers, expected to be completed by early November.
The provincial road MA-3108, which connects Benamargosa and Cútar, is undergoing intervention to improve its drainage and enhance road safety. The Málaga Provincial Council is investing €340,466.79 in works that include the concreting of ditches and the renewal of several kilometres of containment systems, as reported by Diario Sur. The provincial institution expects the works to be completed by early November.
The provincial deputy for Development and Infrastructure, Nieves Atencia (PP), visited the site alongside the mayors of Benamargosa, Salvador Arcas (PSOE), and Cútar, Francisco Javier Ruiz (PP). The works are being carried out by Sedinfra SA, the company awarded the contract for an intervention that the Provincial Council frames within the scheduled actions according to the deficiencies detected in the provincial road network.
One of the main actions is the concreting of 2,400 linear metres of ditches. The aim is to increase the water evacuation capacity and reduce the damage caused by both the erosion of the edges and the accumulation of sediments, which hinders the drainage function during rainfall episodes. Some of the new ditches will be of the American type, a solution that allows for a walkable surface next to the roadway.
“This configuration will allow for an expanded useful section at certain points of the road, as well as improve water evacuation,” highlighted Atencia.
The second block of the project concerns the safety metal barriers. The installation or adjustment of around 3,000 metres is planned. The Provincial Council explains that the successive layers of asphalt laid on the road over the years had left some containment systems at an insufficient height relative to the roadway, so the action aims to adapt them to current technical criteria.
The contracting file details the administrative process. The tender was published in December 2025 and received nine offers. The Provincial Council awarded the contract to Sedinfra on April 8 for €281,377.51 excluding taxes, which amounts to €340,466.79 including VAT and a reduction of 17.28% compared to the base budget. The contractual period set was four months.
The MA-3108 is listed in the Andalusian road catalog as the route from Benamargosa to Cútar. Its route begins in Benamargosa, near the junction with the MA-3107 and MA-3113 next to Arroyo Limón, and ends in Cútar, where it connects with the MA-3106. It is part of the provincial road network that links several of the small municipalities in the interior of the Axarquía.
The action does not propose a comprehensive redesign of the route, but rather aims to solve specific problems detected during the road's maintenance. The concreting aims to prevent water and sediments from deteriorating the platform, while the elevation or replacement of the barriers seeks to restore adequate protection conditions after the successive layers of resurfacing accumulated in recent years.
The MA-3108 is part of a package of road investments that the Provincial Council awarded this spring in the Axarquía. Alongside this action, the improvement of drainage on the MA-3113 through Triana, in Vélez-Málaga, was approved, with an investment exceeding €614,000. Between both projects, the provincial institution awarded works amounting to nearly €955,000 focused on drainage and road safety. The works in Triana, which began this summer, aim to eliminate the cuts historically caused by flooding in three streams.
In Benamargosa and Cútar, the expectation is that the works on the MA-3108 will be completed by early November. By then, the road will have 2.4 kilometres of conditioned ditches and about three kilometres of adapted barriers, aiming to improve the road's performance against rain and the safety of drivers who use this connection in the interior of the Axarquía daily.
