The municipality of Málaga reaches 86,546 contributions to Social Security, surpassing the previous high of July 2025. This marks the fifth consecutive month of growth.

The labour market in Marbella continues to thrive. The municipality on the Costa del Sol closed June 2026 with 86,546 contributors to Social Security, the highest figure in the entire historical series, which began in 2003. This new absolute record exceeds the June 2025 figure by 1,126 contributions and the May figure of this year by 1,957.

The previous high was recorded in July 2025, with 85,420 contributors. Now, Marbella has managed to surpass that barrier even before reaching July, traditionally the month with the highest tourist activity. The year-on-year increase is 1.3%, according to data published by the Ministry of Social Security.

Five months of continuous growth

Since the drop in January, when 74,794 contributions were recorded, employment has not stopped growing. February added 76,356; March, 79,810; April, 81,831; and May, 84,589. June has maintained the trend with 1,957 new contributors compared to the previous month, an increase of 2.31%.

This upward cycle coincides with the peak tourist season, which begins with Holy Week and extends throughout the summer. Marbella, one of the strongest destinations in the province of Málaga, particularly benefits from the demand for hospitality, commercial, and leisure services.

Self-employed: slight decline after May's record

In the self-employed sector, June saw a slight decline. There were 9 fewer self-employed workers than in May, bringing the total to 15,790. Nevertheless, this is the second-best historical figure, only behind the 15,799 recorded in May 2026.

The barrier of 15,500 self-employed individuals was surpassed for the first time in March of this year, and since then, the number has remained above that threshold. The June figure represents a breather after several months of consecutive increases, but it does not alter the overall positive trend.

A promising summer

For the residents of Marbella, this data translates into more job opportunities and greater economic activity. The record number of contributions comes at a key moment, just before the high summer season when hiring usually intensifies.

The Marbella City Council has assessed the data as a reflection of the strength of the local business fabric. Municipal sources highlight that employment is growing at a steady pace and that recovery is consolidating after the winter months.

The comparison with last year is also favourable. In June 2025, there were 83,431 contributors, and in July, the figure reached 85,420. This year, the record has been brought forward to June, suggesting that July could even exceed 87,000 contributors if the trend continues.

Marbella remains an employment engine on the Costa del Sol, with a labour market that continues to surprise. Next month, the July figures will be released, which could confirm whether the summer of 2026 will also be historic in the labour sector.
