The city surpasses 86,000 Social Security contributors for the first time, improving by nearly 2,000 workers from May.
Marbella has recorded the highest number of Social Security affiliates in its history in June, with 86,546 workers. This figure represents an increase of 1,957 contributors compared to May, a 2.31% rise in just one month.
The new record exceeds the previous high of 85,420 affiliates, reached in July 2025. Year-on-year, the city has 1,126 more workers than in June last year.
A record that comes earlier than expected
The general director of the sector, Alejandro Freijo, has highlighted that this historic figure has occurred in June, a month when employment peaks were traditionally recorded in July, coinciding with the height of the tourist season.
As he explained, the available statistical series spans over two decades, and never before has the barrier of 86,000 contributors been surpassed. Freijo has linked this development to the dynamism of strategic sectors such as tourism, services, commerce, and construction.
“With this result, Marbella reaches the highest volume of workers in the entire available statistical series,” Freijo noted.
The municipal official emphasized that these sectors continue to expand their workforces to respond to the growth of economic activity, consolidating the city's ability to generate employment.
Self-employed workers at record levels
Regarding self-employment, June closed with 15,790 self-employed workers, just nine fewer than in May, when the historical maximum was reached. Despite the slight decrease, this is the second highest figure recorded in Marbella.
Since March, when the municipality first surpassed 15,500 self-employed workers, entrepreneurial activity has remained at record levels. Freijo has indicated that the data reflects the strength of the local productive fabric and the confidence of business owners and entrepreneurs in the city's economic prospects.
For Marbella residents, these figures represent an improvement in job opportunities and a sign that the local economy continues to thrive, particularly in the services sector, which generates the most employment on the Costa del Sol.
The City Council has reminded that these figures are part of a positive trend that has been observed in recent years, with consecutive records since 2024. In July of that year, there were 83,622 affiliates, a figure that was already surpassed in July 2025 with 85,420.
With the new maximum in June, Marbella ranks as one of the municipalities in the province of Málaga with the best employment performance, awaiting the July data, which traditionally tends to be even higher.
