The Diputación de Málaga is promoting a special night performance of El Paso de Riogordo on July 24 and 25, to mark its 75th anniversary.

Riogordo is preparing to experience one of the most special events in its history. El Paso, the representation of the passion and death of Jesus, which has been celebrated since 1951, turns 75 years old and will do so with an extraordinary night performance. It will take place this Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25, at 21:30, in the El Calvario venue, which will be transformed into a Judean village.

A tradition that turns 75

The Diputación de Málaga has supported this special edition of the Paso de Riogordo, one of the most deeply rooted traditions in the province. Since 1951, the residents of the municipality have kept this representation alive, participating as actors, lending props and animals, or collaborating in the staging. Provincial deputy Sagrario Molina has highlighted that “El Paso de Riogordo is an example of how cultural and religious heritage can become a unifying element for the community, a collective memory, and a promotion of the territory.”

Molina emphasized that the Diputación promotes this special representation because “it recognizes the effort of an entire town that, since 1951, has kept this event alive with seriousness, rigor, and devotion.” She also added that “Riogordo has managed to preserve a unique tradition, deeply linked to its history, and project it as one of the most representative cultural manifestations in the interior of the province.”

Tickets and sales points

Tickets for the two performances are already on sale. They can be purchased through the platform mientrada.net. There are also physical sales points: in Riogordo, at the Town Hall; in Málaga city, at the Nazareno shop and Cerería Zalo; and in Torre del Mar, at the Pasatiempos bookstore. Groups can make their reservations by calling the Town Hall of Riogordo.

On the days of the performances, ticket sales will be available at the venue box office, starting two hours before the beginning of each show. The organization encourages residents, visitors, and groups to participate in this special event, which will allow them to enjoy one of the most emblematic traditions of the province in a night format to celebrate its anniversary.

The local impact of the tradition

El Paso de Riogordo is not only a cultural event but also a driver of community unity and tourism promotion. Each year, the representation attracts visitors from all over the province and beyond, providing a boost to the local economy. Residents are heavily involved in the organization, and the municipality becomes an open-air stage that recreates biblical Jerusalem. For attendees, it is an opportunity to experience a unique event, with a staging that combines devotion and tradition.

With the promotion of this extraordinary representation, the Diputación de Málaga reinforces its commitment to preserving local traditions, promoting the cultural heritage of the municipalities, and enhancing those manifestations that contribute to strengthening the identity of the province.
