The Avenida del Mar in Marbella has been hosting an exhibition since Wednesday featuring 24 panels that review diplomatic evolution from 1641 to 2026. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, and around thirty consuls attended the inauguration.

The exhibition 'History of the Consular Corps in Málaga 1641-2026' is now open to the public outdoors on the Avenida del Mar in Marbella. The display, made up of 24 panels, will be open until August 5 and covers almost four centuries of diplomatic activity in the province.

The initiative arises from the collaboration between the Marbella City Council and the Consular Corps of Málaga, which groups the consulates based in the province. The inauguration event was attended by the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, and around thirty consuls.

A look at diplomatic evolution

The panels trace the history of the consular institution since its establishment in Málaga in 1641, highlighting its adaptation to historical changes and its role in public service. The exhibition also addresses assistance to citizens and the strengthening of cooperation between countries at the local level.

The dean of the Consular Corps in Málaga, José Manuel Ramos, noted that the exhibition aims to raise awareness of the trajectory of an institution that has contributed for four centuries to dialogue between countries and the international projection of the province.

“The exhibition invites reflection on diplomacy and the role of consulates as tools for dialogue and cooperation,” added the vice-dean, Fausto Martínez.

Marbella, a melting pot of nationalities

The mayor recalled that Marbella has a marked international projection and that people from 155 nationalities coexist in the municipality. Furthermore, the registered foreign population represents 34% of the total inhabitants.

Ángeles Muñoz emphasized the importance of consular work for the support it provides to thousands of citizens and for its contribution to collaboration between institutions and countries. The event was also attended by the Councillor for Citizen Security, José Eduardo Díaz, and the advisor responsible for the area of Resident Foreigners, Remedios Bocanegra.

Thus, Marbella consolidates itself as a space for intercultural meeting, and the exhibition offers a look at both the history of these institutions and the role they continue to play today.

Practical information for visitors

The exhibition can be visited for free on the Avenida del Mar, one of the busiest promenades in Marbella, until August 5. The panels are in Spanish and English, and no prior reservation is required.

For residents and tourists interested in diplomatic history, it is a unique opportunity to learn about the legacy of the Málaga consular corps without leaving the street.
