The Marbella Half Marathon surpasses 3,000 registrants for the first time, with 3,390 runners confirmed. The Town Hall will open 50 extra spots next Monday due to high demand.
The Marbella Half Marathon has reached a historic milestone by exceeding 3,000 registrants for the first time. According to the Sports Councillor, Lisandro Vieytes, the event now has 3,390 runners registered through the three platforms set up: Gesconchip, World Marathon, and Finisher.
This figure represents an absolute record for the race, which in its best previous edition, in 2015, had around 2,500 participants. The significant increase has led the Town Hall to expand the quota: on Monday, July 20, 50 new spots will be opened from 08:00 on Gesconchip.
An Unstoppable Growth After the Pandemic
The evolution of the Marbella Half Marathon reflects a spectacular recovery. In 2022, just after the pandemic, the event hit rock bottom with only 600 runners. The following year it rose to 800, in 2024 it reached 1,300, and last year it already surpassed 2,100. Now, with 3,390 registrants, the organization has had to redesign the route to accommodate so many participants.
The race director, Pablo Vázquez, explained that the previous route was no longer viable: "The previous route could not accommodate the volume of runners for this edition, so we have developed a wider, more comfortable, and safer course for all athletes."
New Circuit and Official T-Shirt
The start remains at the Arco de Marbella and the race will head towards Puerto Banús, where the turning point will be. From there, runners will continue along the promenade until completing the official distance, with the finish line located at the Parque del Mediterráneo. As a novelty, the outbound route will run along the old N-340 at the height of Puente Romano.
Participants will receive an official black t-shirt with red details, and they will be able to compete in the relay category, which already has 50 teams registered (150 athletes). The charity 5-kilometre race has 240 participants.
Runner Profile: 699 Locals and 27 Nationalities
Of the registrants in the individual event, 699 athletes are from Marbella (registered through the Sports Card), while 2,301 come from outside the municipality. Female participation accounts for 36% of the total, and the event will bring together runners from 27 nationalities, with 1,559 foreign athletes and the rest from various parts of Spain.
For the residents of Marbella, this edition represents an opportunity to see the city adorned for sports and to participate in an event that has established itself as a reference on the Costa del Sol. The new spots will sell out quickly, so anyone wanting to run should be alert on Monday morning.
