The Málaga-born actor Antonio Banderas is finalising the details of his new residence on Los Monteros beach, a 500 square metre property valued at 10 million euros that replaces the historic 'La Gaviota', demolished in 2024 after a lengthy urban litigation.

The Málaga-born actor Antonio Banderas can almost walk on the sands of Marbella with the peace of mind of having his own roof. His new mansion, named 'Mi Calle', is about to become a reality on the exclusive Los Monteros beach, the same location that housed his previous residence, 'La Gaviota', for nearly three decades, which was demolished last year by court order.

A 500 square metre mansion facing the Mediterranean

The new property, valued at 10 million euros, is spread over three floors in a Mediterranean style. The ground floor encompasses the common areas: a spacious living room, a garden with a pool, a cinema room, a gym, and a sauna. Everything is designed for the enjoyment of the actor and his guests.

The second floor is dedicated to rest, featuring a master bedroom of 90 square metres that promises to be a luxurious retreat. On the rooftop, a solarium with a kitchen and barbecue offers panoramic views of the sea, the true star of the estate.

“It is a place that is part of my personal and professional history; I spent some of the best years there with my family,” the actor has stated in close circles, according to sources from his environment.

Banderas plans to use the house during his free time, especially in summer, when Málaga becomes his headquarters.

The long litigation over 'La Gaviota' that ended in demolition

The origin of the conflict dates back to 1995, when the then mayor of Marbella, Jesús Gil, authorised the construction of the mansion on land that, according to neighbours and courts, encroached on public domain. A year later, the residents of Los Monteros reported the construction, initiating a lawsuit that would last nearly three decades.

In 2003, the Superior Court of Justice of Andalusia annulled the licence. After several legal ups and downs — including a legalisation in 2010 that was later suspended — in 2013 an agreement was reached to cede 1,243 square metres to the municipality, but the Supreme Court annulled it in 2015. The demolition order became final.

Finally, in 2024, the house was demolished, closing one of the most notorious urban litigations on the Costa del Sol. With the plot free, Banderas wasted no time and began constructing 'Mi Calle', this time with all permits in order and compliant with the law.

A project that maintains the Mediterranean essence

The new residence respects the architectural style of the area, featuring white lines, large windows, and noble materials. The idea, according to the project, was to maintain the Mediterranean identity of the place but with top-quality finishes and, above all, scrupulously complying with urban regulations.

For the residents of Marbella, the news signifies the closure of a controversial chapter. The new house also strengthens the actor's bond with the province, where he already owns other properties and where he carries out part of his business and cultural activities, such as the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank.

With 'Mi Calle', Antonio Banderas demonstrates that, despite the obstacles, his love for Marbella remains intact. This time, however, with the lesson well learned: building is better with all the paperwork in order.
