The municipality of Mijas will host a festive day on September 23 with a flamenco show and free paella tasting, as well as a shuttle bus service.
The Mijas Town Hall has organised a new edition of Tourist Day, which will be celebrated on September 23 in Virgen de la Peña square. The event, open to residents and visitors, will include a flamenco show and free paella tasting.
Activities will kick off at 12:00 hours with the flamenco performance, while the tasting will begin at 13:30 hours. To facilitate access, a shuttle bus service will connect various points in the municipality with the event location.
The Councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez, explained that this initiative is part of World Tourism Day, an international event. “We want tourists, visitors, and residents to come and share this day with us,” he stated.

The chosen date coincides with the final stretch of the summer season, a key period for the commercial and hospitality activity in the municipality. “The presence of visitors generates movement in our shops, bars, and restaurants and directly impacts the local economy,” the councillor affirmed.
Jerez reminded that tourism is the main industry in Mijas and emphasised the need to maintain the strength of the destination beyond the summer. The Tourism Department is working on destationalisation with the aim of increasing visits during the winter, targeting a profile of tourists seeking tranquility, golf offerings, and the pleasant temperatures of the Costa del Sol.
“The challenge is to continue receiving visitors in summer, but also to increase their arrival during winter.”
