The Málaga municipality recorded 92.26% in July and 94.4% in August, only behind Benalmádena and Torremolinos. The Town Hall is now focusing its efforts on prolonging tourist activity during autumn.
The hotel occupancy in Mijas reached 94.4% in August, the third best record in the province of Málaga, according to the report released by the Town Hall of Mijas this Monday, September 28. In July, the municipality had placed second in the province with 92.26%.
Between the two months, occupancy rose by more than two points. The August figure also exceeds by 0.83 points the record for the same month in 2025, when Mijas closed with 93.57%, and is 1.55 points above the provincial average, set at 92.85%.
In the August ranking, only Benalmádena, with 96.2%, and Torremolinos, with 95.5%, surpassed Mijas. The municipality has climbed two positions compared to the same month last year, when it ranked fifth in the province.
The Councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez, has evaluated the results:
“Being among the three municipalities with the highest occupancy in the entire province during July and August is a very positive result and demonstrates Mijas' ability to compete with some of the main tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol.”
Jerez added that “behind these figures is activity in our establishments, consumption, and employment, which is where we really want to see the positive impact of tourism.”
With the high season closed, the Tourism Area is now working to maintain activity during autumn. “July and August perform very well, but Mijas has more than enough arguments to attract visitors outside the high season. Our goal is for tourism to continue generating activity in the coming months and for us to have an increasingly extended season,” the councillor explained.
The municipal official highlighted gastronomy, golf, nature, Mijas Pueblo, the coastline, and commerce as the attractions that will support promotion in the coming months. “Now we are focusing on autumn and continuing to generate reasons to choose Mijas even outside the high season,” concluded Jerez.
