Mayor Manolo Barón attends the opening of the 2026/2027 academic year of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antequera, with a lecture by Sara Pujol Russell and the presence of poet Antonio Carvajal.
The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antequera inaugurated its academic year 2026/2027 on Friday, September 25, in an event held at its headquarters on Encarnación Street. The mayor of the city, Manolo Barón, attended the session accompanied by deputy mayor Ana Cebrián and councillor José Medina Galeote, representing the City Council.
During his speech, Barón noted that the start of a new year for the institution is good news for Antequera's culture.
“The start of a new year at the Royal Academy is good news for Antequera's culture. Its work in research and knowledge dissemination helps keep our heritage alive and enriches the cultural life of our city.”
The programme included speeches from Antonio García Acedo, territorial delegate for Economy, Finance and European Funds, and for University, Industry, Energy and Innovation in Málaga, and José Escalante Jiménez, president of the Institute of Academies of Andalusia.
The opening lecture, titled “A quarter of a century: when silence is not enough,” was delivered by Sara Pujol Russell, corresponding academic of the institution. Her presentation was given by Juan de la Cruz López García-Berdoy, secretary of the Royal Academy.
The event was also attended by poet Antonio Carvajal, National Poetry Prize winner and member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Antequera, who accompanied the corporation at the opening of the new academic year.
