Fuengirola's Parque de España will host a free flamenco fusion concert by the Ábrego quintet this Thursday, August 20, at 21:00.
This Thursday, August 20, Fuengirola's Parque de España will become the stage for flamenco fusion thanks to the Ábrego quintet. The performance, which is free to access, will begin at 21:00 and is part of the summer cultural programme prepared by the Fuengirola City Council for residents and visitors.
The group, made up of five young musicians from Cádiz, Málaga, and Córdoba, will present a repertoire that combines original pieces, traditional songs, and adaptations of great masters such as Paco de Lucía, Camarón, Enrique Morente, and Miguel Poveda. The ensemble consists of Juan Diego Sáez, Javi León, Alberto Torres, Néstor Urquía, and Chico Carmona, and its name refers to the warm and humid south-west wind characteristic of the region.
What is unique about this proposal is that the flamenco guitar, bass, and percussion blend with the flute and saxophone, two instruments that mimic flamenco singing. Thus, Ábrego presents a flamenco ensemble without a singer, where the adaptation of different instruments reveals new sounds within the traditional repertoire.
The project originated as an educational activity at the Manuel Carra Professional Conservatory of Music in Málaga, where its members worked as teachers. The success achieved in the educational field encouraged the group to establish itself, expand its repertoire, and perform on various stages.
The Councillor for Culture, Rodrigo Romero, has encouraged everyone to enjoy this event in one of the most emblematic spaces in the city centre. “Fuengirola offers a significant and varied cultural programme during the summer, designed for both our residents and the people who visit us during these months,” Romero noted, reminding that the programme continues throughout the year with activities from various disciplines and formats.
The performance will take place this Thursday, August 20, at 21:00 in Parque de España. Access will be free until capacity is reached.
