The VIII Tourist Day of Torre del Mar, on August 27, will offer a free tasting of a cake nearly six square metres in size. Chef Roberto Soler will prepare over 4,000 servings dedicated to the history of the town's lighthouses.

On August 27, starting at 20:30, the Paseo Marítimo de Poniente, next to the Lighthouse, will host the eighth edition of the Torre del Mar Tourist Day. The event, organised by the Deputy Mayor's Office and the Tourism Department of Vélez-Málaga, will feature a free tasting of a giant cake with more than 4,000 servings to be distributed.

Chef Roberto Soler from the Sabores Cooking School will be responsible for creating this year's cake, which will be dedicated to the history of the lighthouses of Torre del Mar. According to the chef, it will be a rectangular cake of nearly six square metres, a format that revives the style of the first maritime cakes made at the beginning of this initiative.

The first deputy mayor of Vélez-Málaga and councillor for Tourism, Jesús Pérez Atencia, presented the event at a press conference and highlighted that this event has become a staple in the municipality's summer programming. “It is an initiative we launched eight years ago to pay tribute and thank all the people who choose us every year to enjoy their holidays,” he stated.

“We once again have the collaboration of the local chef Roberto Soler, who will be in charge of creating a spectacular giant cake of nearly six square metres, from which over 4,000 servings will be available. This edition's theme will be inspired by the history of the lighthouses of Torre del Mar, a very representative element of our maritime identity.”

The cake's decoration will return to its origins, featuring large fondant figures, edible soil, and a sea made of cream. Soler detailed that 100 sheets of white sponge cake will be used, which if placed in line would reach 60 metres in length, along with 350 litres of vegetable cream, 50 litres of spiced syrup, 60 kilos of speculoos cream, 15 kilos of ground speculoos biscuits, and 80 kilos of fondant for the decorative pieces.

Pérez Atencia emphasised that such events “serve to energise our town, offer different experiences, and continue enriching the summer programme.” He also thanked the chef and the entire team that makes the event possible, which has become “one of the most anticipated events of the summer in Torre del Mar.”

The tasting is free and open to locals, tourists, and visitors. With this initiative, the municipality aims to thank those who choose the Vélez-Málaga coast for their holidays, in another year where the town strengthens its summer leisure offerings.
