The Andalucía Antequera Light Fest 2026, commemorating the tenth anniversary of the UNESCO declaration of the Dolmens Site, will take place on 17 and 18 July with six light installations in the historic centre. The free Family Days Festival will run from 15 to 19 July at the Paseo Real.

The Antequera City Council presented this Thursday at the City Museum the tenth edition of the Andalucía Antequera Light Fest, which will take place on 17 and 18 July with six light interventions in the historic centre. The festival coincides with the tenth anniversary of the declaration of the Dolmens Site as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

The Deputy Mayor for Tourism and World Heritage, Ana Cebrián, explained that the recommended route begins at the Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor and descends through the Cuesta de San Judas, the Coso Viejo, the Plaza de San Sebastián, the courtyard of the City Hall, and the Plaza de San Luis. The installations will be visible from 22:30 to 02:00 hours.

Luminare, the great novelty of Light Fest 2026

The main novelty of this edition is Luminare, a videomapping show that moves inside the Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor. The façade will remain illuminated, but the main projection will take place inside the temple, over the main altar, the columns, the arches, and the ceiling, featuring images of universal heritage and the history of humanity.

On the Cuesta de San Judas, the installation Rain of Light will transform the trees into light sculptures with blue drops that evoke the importance of water in the historical settlement of the city. The Coso Viejo will revive the traditional display of candles with compositions inspired by the symbols of Antequera and UNESCO.

In the Plaza de San Sebastián, The Fire of History will combine light, music, and fire to evoke the origin of humanity and the role of fire among the first inhabitants. The courtyard of the City Hall will host Music Party Universe, a proposal inspired by the firmament and the observation of the sky by ancient inhabitants. The itinerary concludes in the Plaza de San Luis with DJ Light, a videomapping and live music show designed for a young audience, featuring a DJ situated on one of the building's balconies.

Family Days Festival: free music and food trucks at the Paseo Real

As a complement, the Paseo Real will host the Family Days Festival from 15 to 19 July, with free access, operating from 20:00 to 00:00 hours and featuring 12 food trucks. The programme kicks off on Wednesday 15 with the inauguration, the children's show Family Dance: The Awakening, and the concert Superhits en Español. On Thursday 16, the Tardeo de las Generaciones, the K-Pop Experience Phenomenon, and a tribute to Estopa will follow.

On Friday 17, coinciding with the start of the interventions in the historic centre, the Paseo Real will offer the Retro-Family Show, the Disney Musical Wishes Gala, and a tribute to Fito & Fitipaldis. On Saturday 18, the Vermú Dance featuring children's hits, the Viral Kids Experience, and a tribute to Héroes del Silencio will take place. The programme concludes on Sunday 19 with Great Multimedia Animations and a tribute concert to The Beatles.

The festival has a budget of €300,000, co-financed with FEDER Funds and sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism and Andalucía Exterior of the Junta de Andalucía. It is also supported by Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol, from the Provincial Council of Málaga, and the technical and artistic production is handled by the company Womack, which has been working on the festival for a decade.

The 2025 edition attracted over 40,000 people, a figure the City Council hopes to consolidate in 2026 with the expansion of the family programme. Residents of Antequera and visitors will be able to enjoy an event that combines art, light, and music for free at the Paseo Real, with free access to the interventions in the historic centre. For those wishing to plan their visit, the City Council recommends following the suggested itinerary and checking the schedules on the official festival website.
