The espetador Sergio Cerdán Cervantes from La Tómbola / Grupo Bar América in Torremolinos triumphed in the twelfth edition of the contest held yesterday in Playamar.
The XII Costa del Sol Espetos Contest now has a winner. Sergio Cerdán Cervantes from the establishment La Tómbola / Grupo Bar América in Torremolinos was crowned champion of the contest yesterday, organised by the Torremolinos City Council along with the local Business Circle.
The final took place in the beach area between the beach bars Sal Marina and Casa Paco in Playamar, where a popular espetada was also offered to attendees. The contest, which combines gastronomy, culture, tourism, and promotion, brought together espetadores from various points in the province of Málaga.
The podium was completed by Miguel Ángel de los Ríos from the beach bar Marina Playa in Rincón de la Victoria, and Miguel Ángel León Navarrete from La Mar Bonita in Torremolinos, who took second and third places, respectively.
The winner received a prize of 1,000 euros and a trophy, while the second-placed contestant received 500 euros and a trophy, and the third placed received 300 euros and a trophy. The contest aims to recognise the professionals behind one of the hallmarks of Málaga's cuisine and to promote this way of preparing fish.
In this edition, the Espeto de Honor was awarded to Los Mellizos, an establishment in Torremolinos run by the Montes brothers.
The jury was made up of industry professionals, including the commercial director of La Opinión de Málaga, Luis Villatoro; the vice president of MAHOS and director of several restaurants, Romina di Lorenzo; chef Juanjo Carmona, awarded the 'Cocinando el mar' prize at Madrid Fusión; food content creator Andrea Ruiz; catering owner Alejandra Pérez; and seafood expert Sebastián Martín.
The event is sponsored by the Málaga Provincial Council through Sabor a Málaga, the Junta de Andalucía, the Association of Municipalities of the Western Costa del Sol, and numerous collaborating companies.
For the residents and visitors of Torremolinos, this contest consolidates the town as a reference for Málaga's gastronomy, attracting professionals and the public interested in the tradition of espetos each year.
