Málaga, 3rd November 2026. The Costa del Sol University Hospital (HUCS) and the Regional University Hospital of Málaga (HURM) have launched the PRISMA project, aimed at improving access to information on sexual health through a conversational tool based on artificial intelligence (AI).
Project Details
PRISMA, which stands for Prevention and Immediate Response in Sexual Health and its Management in Andalusia, seeks to provide reliable and personalised information, addressing sexual health queries that are often not raised in medical consultations. This project is led by physician Julián Olalla Sierra and physician Inés Pérez Camacho, and is developed in collaboration with the University of Granada (UGR) in its technological aspect.
The PRISMA team consists of professionals from various disciplines, including health sciences, social sciences, linguistics, and artificial intelligence. This integration allows for a comprehensive approach to the development of the conversational assistant (chatbot), combining clinical expertise with research and technology skills.
Access to Understandable Information
The project responds to a growing need to provide accessible pathways for rigorous information on sexual health. Often, there are concerns about confidentiality and the difficulty of directly raising certain questions. PRISMA will develop a tool capable of interacting with users using natural language and offering informative responses tailored to different profiles.
Furthermore, PRISMA is designed as a complement to healthcare, facilitating access to information without replacing the role of health professionals. This project aims for individuals to make informed decisions about their sexual health.
One of the essential elements of the project is the joint development that includes the participation of professionals and various user profiles, such as people living with HIV, university students, and members of the educational community. This will help identify information needs and frequently asked questions, contributing to the creation of suitable content and interaction patterns.
In summary, PRISMA aims to bring reliable information about sexual health to the population in a simple and confidential manner, using the capabilities of AI to answer questions that are generally not discussed in medical consultations. The project aims to foster a better-informed society regarding sexual health, empowering individuals to make decisions autonomously and responsibly.
This effort is being carried out within the framework of the 2025 call for grants in research, development, and innovation in Biomedicine and Health Sciences in Andalusia.
