The Málaga Transfusion Centre, affiliated with the Ministry of Presidency, Health and Emergencies, has launched a new blood donation campaign aimed at the university community in the province. This initiative will take place from November 4 to December 16 at 14 university centres.

Blood donation is essential for carrying out medical and surgical procedures, as blood components cannot be artificially produced. Currently, around 250 donations are required daily to meet the demand in the province of Málaga. Furthermore, there is a need to encourage a generational shift among donors, as a large number of them are over 50 years old.

Collection Schedule

The mobile units of the Transfusion Centre will be present at various key points on university campuses, including Teatinos, Ampliación de Teatinos and El Ejido in the capital, as well as at the Mª Inmaculada University School of Education in Antequera and the Alfonso X el Sabio Mare Nostrum University centre.

The collections will begin on November 4 at the Faculty of Law in Teatinos, where students can donate between 9:30 AM and 2:00 PM, and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. On November 5, the Faculty of Education Sciences will also receive the mobile unit, and on November 12, it will be the turn of the Faculty of Science.

On November 16, donations will be possible at the faculties of Telecommunications and Computer Science, and on November 17 at the Faculty of Health Sciences. Subsequently, on November 18, the University School of Education in Antequera will host the donation in its Multipurpose Room.

On another note, the Transfusion Centre aims to achieve 1,500 donations during this campaign, a challenge that includes the participation of the university community in various promotional and dissemination activities.

Collaboration and Promotion

To ensure the success of this campaign, the Transfusion Centre has collaborated with educational institutions, which will provide spaces for the collections and assist in promoting the initiative through posters and social media. Additionally, informational tables will be set up where AVOI volunteers will provide information about blood and bone marrow donation.

Individuals who donated in previous campaigns will also receive information about the dates when the mobile unit will be present at their educational centre, as well as informational materials regarding the conditions for donating blood. Throughout November and part of December, the Transfusion Centre will continue to carry out collections at various points in the province, in addition to managing donations at its fixed location in the Civil Hospital premises.
