Nikoline, 17, died after being hit by a vehicle on the A-7 near Mijas Costa. The driver fled the scene, and the young girl had no identification, which delayed her identification.

Nikoline, a 17-year-old Norwegian teenager, has died after being struck by a vehicle early on Monday morning on the A-7 motorway as it passes through Mijas Costa. The driver of the vehicle involved fled the scene, according to the National Police.

The incident occurred around 5:20 AM at kilometre 1027 of the A-7, heading towards Marbella. The victim was run over by a vehicle that, according to initial testimonies, continued driving after the impact. The Traffic Civil Guard is conducting an investigation to locate the responsible party.

Identification complicated due to lack of documents

The young girl had no identification on her at the time of the accident, which initially complicated her identification. At first, it was only known that the victim was a pedestrian. It was not until hours later that the family confirmed it was Nikoline, who was on holiday in the Costa del Sol.

Several witnesses called the Emergency Services number 112 to report that a woman had been hit and was lying on the road. One of the callers explained that several drivers stopped to try to assist her, while the vehicle involved continued to drive away. The coordinating centre mobilised the Traffic Civil Guard and the 061 medical services, who could only certify her death.

A young girl “very happy and affectionate” who planned to return to Norway

Sources from her family described Nikoline as “a very happy and affectionate girl.” The 17-year-old was scheduled to return to Norway on Monday to celebrate a birthday with her friends. Her family also emphasised the close relationship she had with her mother. “She was always in contact with her, even during the nights,” said the same sources, who acknowledged that it was particularly strange for them that she did not communicate with her family during the night of her disappearance.

The family insisted that the minor knew the area, as it was not the first time Nikoline had been in Marbella or Puerto Banús. Until the confirmation of her death, the family held out hope that the young girl could be located as soon as possible.

Missing after a night in Puerto Banús

Nikoline's family had requested public assistance to locate her after she went missing during the early hours in Puerto Banús, Marbella. The young girl was on holiday in the Costa del Sol with other Norwegian youths and, according to her family, was scheduled to return to Norway on Monday.

The disappearance was reported to the National Police. The family’s alert, also covered by international media, placed the last sighting of the minor at the Funky Buddha nightclub, a well-known venue in the Puerto Banús leisure area, where she had been with other Norwegian youths after her country's national team match.

The Traffic Civil Guard continues the investigation to find the driver who fled the scene. Anyone with information is urged to contact the authorities.
