The British manufacturer Bentley has revealed that its first 100% electric model will be called Torcal, in homage to the Torcal of Antequera (Málaga). It will be presented on September 23 and will be an SUV that shares a platform with the electric Porsche Cayenne.

Bentley has unveiled the name of its first fully electric car: Torcal. The British brand has confirmed that the name is a direct tribute to the Torcal of Antequera, the impressive karst landscape of Málaga. The model, an SUV that will be unveiled on September 23, will be the fourth member of the current range, alongside the Flying Spur, the Continental GT, and the Bentayga.

The choice of name is not coincidental. According to sources at Bentley, the Torcal of Antequera, with its rock formations over 200 million years old, embodies the solidity and innovation that the brand wants to convey with its first electric vehicle. Additionally, the word 'torcal' comes from the Latin 'torquere', which means 'to twist', the root of the English word 'torque', a key concept in electric vehicles.

Technical details and shared platform

The Bentley Torcal will be an SUV that, according to initial information, will share a platform with the upcoming electric Porsche Cayenne. This means it will feature an 800-volt system, allowing for charging powers exceeding 400 kW. It is expected that the range and performance will be on par with competitors in the luxury electric segment.

The British brand has shown a single partial image of the rear of the vehicle, featuring a rounded tailgate and refined LED lights. Everything suggests that it could be a complement to the Bentayga, perhaps smaller in size, or even a replacement for it, as the current Bentley SUV appeared ten years ago and its last aesthetic update dates back six years.

A nod to the province of Málaga

That a brand like Bentley, synonymous with luxury and British tradition, sets its sights on a corner of the province of Málaga is a source of pride for the people of Antequera and the entire region. The Torcal of Antequera, declared a Natural Area and Special Protection Zone for Birds, is already a top tourist attraction, and now its name will travel the world associated with high-end automotive.

For the residents of Antequera, seeing the name of their most emblematic site on a luxury vehicle is an added incentive to visit it. The Torcal welcomes thousands of hikers and nature lovers each year, and with this news, its international projection multiplies. Who knows if one day we will see a Bentley Torcal cruising the roads that border the site.

Next steps and launch

Bentley has indicated that in the coming weeks it will reveal more details about the Torcal, such as exact power, range, and price. The launch is scheduled for late 2026, with the first deliveries to customers in early 2027. Interested parties can already register on the brand's website to receive exclusive information.

The Bentley Torcal will be manufactured at the Crewe plant (UK), and it is expected to reach Spanish dealerships in the first quarter of 2027. Prices, as expected, will be in six-digit figures. For the people of Málaga, at least, the name will sound like glory.
