The Civil Guard and the Customs Surveillance Service of the Tax Agency have carried out an operation in Huelva resulting in the arrest of ten members of a criminal organisation dedicated to drug trafficking.
The arrests occurred following a shooting attack on a patrol boat of the Provincial Maritime Service of Huelva during the early hours of August 17 to 18, 2026.
Operation Details
In this operation, two vessels, known as "narcolanchas", were intervened, and a total of 5,926 kilos of hashish were seized. This operation represents a significant blow to organisations involved in this illicit trade in southern Spain.
The events began when the Civil Guard patrol boat, in collaboration with a vessel from the Customs Surveillance Service, initiated a pursuit of a suspicious semi-rigid boat believed to be involved in drug trafficking activities. During this pursuit, the crew of the narcolancha performed dangerous maneuvers and opened fire on the agents.
Development of Events
The crew of the vessel threw part of the cargo into the sea to hinder the agents' work and caused damage to the patrol boat during the confrontation. Despite the Civil Guard's attempts to repel the attack, the vessel managed to escape due to a malfunction in the patrol boat.
Subsequently, an operation was carried out to locate those responsible, culminating in a coordinated raid on August 20 that resulted in the interception of both narcolanchas and the arrest of nine crew members. Additionally, a tenth member of the organisation was arrested who had sustained an injury and was left on the coast of Cádiz.
The investigation remains open to clarify the involvement of the detainees in the attack and determine their responsibilities within the criminal organisation. This operation was conducted by various units of the Civil Guard and the Tax Agency, and the case is supervised by the Central Court of the National Court.
