The Civil Guard, in collaboration with the National Police and the Customs Surveillance Service, has carried out a significant operation against drug trafficking in which 20 people were arrested and over 1,500 kilos of cocaine were seized. This intervention took place in Galicia, specifically at Arnela beach in Muxía, A Coruña.
The investigation, which began in January 2025, arose after the discovery of a semi-submersible allegedly used by the organisation to introduce cocaine into Spanish territory, taking advantage of the Galician coasts. The criminal network, based in Costa da Morte, had detailed knowledge of the area's topography, allowing them to carry out their criminal activities in isolated locations.
Results of the Operation
In the early hours of August 12, 2026, a large operation was set up to interrupt a new drug trafficking operation that the organisation was planning to execute. During the intervention, the suspects were arrested as they were preparing to unload the cargo at the aforementioned beach.
Among those arrested was a member of the Civil Guard, which has generated particular attention regarding the involvement of agents in illegal activities. The operation has been led by the Organised Crime Team of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard.
Continuation of the Investigation
The investigation remains open and is being supervised by the Instruction Section of the Central Court of Plaza nº 1 of the National Court. Authorities do not rule out further actions related to the investigated events, given the level of sophistication and the complex structure of the criminal network.
