Ángeles Muñoz has received the Marbella footballers Dani Lorenzo and Aarón Ochoa, along with fitness coach Dani Jiménez, to acknowledge their contribution to the historic promotion of Málaga CF to La Liga.
The Marbella Town Hall's plenary hall turned into an impromptu celebration locker room this Wednesday. The mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, welcomed the Marbella footballers Dani Lorenzo and Aarón Ochoa, along with fitness coach Dani Jiménez, also from the locality, to pay tribute to them for their role in Málaga CF's promotion to La Liga.
Local Pride and an Example for the Youth
Muñoz, accompanied by the Sports Councillor, Lisandro Vieytes, wanted to highlight the athletes' connection to Marbella. "They have come from here and are very linked to Marbella, so they represent a magnificent example for our youth," the mayor stated during the event.
The mayor emphasized that "Marbella is particularly proud of this moment because, in addition to Málaga's return to the elite of Spanish football, this promotion has a distinct Marbella accent.” The three honorees, according to Muñoz, "share values that make them role models for the new generations."
"You have grown from grassroots sports, you have worked with humility, and you have shown that with dedication and perseverance, dreams can come true," the mayor affirmed, also thanking the families for their support throughout their careers.
The Emotions of the Protagonists
Dani Lorenzo, midfielder for Málaga, did not hide his emotion. "It’s an unforgettable season, and to be valued in your city is a tremendous pride," he assured. The footballer recalled that both he and his teammates "have lived Málaga very closely since we left the football fields of Marbella."
"Being able to fulfil the dream of playing in La Liga with your hometown team is an enormous satisfaction," Lorenzo added, already looking towards the future: "It will be a very demanding season, but we face it with great excitement because we have earned our place there."
Aarón Ochoa, for his part, thanked the City Council for the recognition and wanted to highlight his roots. "My journey started here, in Los Compadres, before joining Málaga," he explained. The young footballer described the return to La Liga as "a very complicated challenge," although he assured that the team faces it "with excitement and eagerness."
Dani Jiménez, the fitness coach, valued the tribute as "something very beautiful" and noted that receiving recognition from his city "brings immense happiness." Jiménez highlighted the emotional impact of the promotion: "Seeing so many young people dreaming of wearing the Málaga shirt one day is one of the greatest achievements that this promotion leaves behind."
For the Marbella fans, this recognition represents an extra reason for pride. The presence of three local professionals in the team that has returned Málaga to the elite of Spanish football reinforces the city's youth academy and demonstrates that work in the lower categories bears fruit. The City Council has already announced that it will continue to support grassroots sports as a breeding ground for talent.
The event concluded with a small reception and the presentation of some institutional gifts. The three athletes appeared smiling and approachable, signing autographs for the children who approached the Town Hall. Next season, with Málaga already in La Liga, the focus will be on them: two Marbella academy graduates and a local fitness coach fighting to maintain their status. And who knows, perhaps next year will bring another tribute.
