The Fuengirola City Council has put out to tender the complete renovation of Sevilla Street, with a budget of 1,000,347 euros and a period of 168 days.
The renovation works on Sevilla Street in Fuengirola have been publicly tendered for an amount of 1,000,347.56 euros, as announced by Mayor Ana Mula. The project, funded by a grant from the Málaga Provincial Council, includes the complete replacement of the supply pipelines and the renewal of over 300 linear meters of the road, while maintaining the existing parking spaces.
Mula explained that the intervention responds to the demands of the residents of the San Cayetano neighbourhood, where the street is located. "The passage of time and the use of the roads make continuous actions necessary," said the mayor, who highlighted that more than 700,000 euros have been allocated to three other renovations in the same area during her term: the San José square, the space between San Salvador and Triana streets, and the installation of a new water network in Estepona, San Vicente, Goya, Doctor Ochoa, and Núñez de Balboa streets.
The execution period for the works is 168 days, and interested companies can submit their bids until July 22. This action adds to the efforts of the City Council to modernise urban roads, having already renewed numerous streets in all neighbourhoods of the city.
Sevilla Street is one of the main arteries of the San Cayetano neighbourhood, with a high density of residential and commercial traffic. The complete renovation will include improvements in accessibility and the renewal of the pavement, as well as the updating of the sewage and drinking water networks, which have frequently experienced breakdowns.
This investment represents another step in the urban renewal plan that the Fuengirola City Council has been developing since 2019, aiming to adapt public spaces to the needs of the 21st century. The mayor recalled that actions have been taken in "all neighbourhoods and areas," and that Sevilla Street was one of those that "needed a more urgent intervention."
The works are financed through the Cooperation Plan of the Málaga Provincial Council, which has granted a subsidy of 1,000,347 euros. The technical project has been drafted by municipal services and is expected to begin in September, once the contract is awarded.
Local residents have expressed their satisfaction with the news, as they have been requesting improvements on Sevilla Street for years, particularly regarding the pavement and pipes. "It is a very busy street with many shops; it needed a thorough renovation," commented a resident of the area.
With this action, Fuengirola continues its commitment to improving the quality of life in its neighbourhoods, combining infrastructure renewal with the preservation of the traditional character of its streets.
