The comprehensive renovation of Sevilla Street, funded with over one million euros from the Málaga Provincial Council, is entering its final stages. Two companies are competing for the awarding of work that will renew the road.
The Fuengirola City Council is approaching the final stages to award the comprehensive renovation works of Sevilla Street, an action that will completely renew the infrastructure of this road. The mayor, Ana Mula, presented the project details on Tuesday alongside the Councillor for Infrastructure, José Sánchez.
The works, funded through a grant from the Málaga Provincial Council, were put out to tender for an amount exceeding one million euros. Once the deadline for submitting offers closed, two companies are competing for the awarding of the project.
Mula recalled that the government team has promoted the renewal of streets and public spaces in almost all neighbourhoods of Fuengirola in recent years, but admitted that Sevilla Street "was one of the roads that needed a deeper and more urgent intervention, as conveyed by its residents."
"Since I became part of the city government, we have made a significant effort to renew and modernise the streets and public spaces of Fuengirola. We have acted in practically all neighbourhoods and areas of the city, but the passage of time and the intensive use of the roads make new interventions necessary to keep them in the best conditions," the mayor explained.
Pre-meeting with residents
Before the works begin, the mayor and members of the government team will hold a meeting with the local residents. The aim is to explain the main features of the project firsthand, address their concerns, and agree on the start date of the works to minimise inconvenience.
Sevilla Street has more than 300 linear metres in length. The project includes the complete renewal of the pipelines that supply water to the homes and businesses on the street, as well as improvements to the surface space. The intervention has been designed to maintain the existing parking spaces, a particularly relevant issue for residents.
So far in this term, the City Council has allocated over 700,000 euros to three other renovation projects in this area of the city. These include the renovation of San José Square, the renewal of the space between San Salvador, Triana, and Sevilla streets, and the installation of a new water supply network in Estepona, San Vicente, Goya, Doctor Ochoa, and Núñez de Balboa streets.
"We continue to work so that all neighbourhoods in Fuengirola have modern, accessible streets, squares, and infrastructures adapted to current needs. This action on Sevilla Street is a new step towards that goal, and we also want residents to be part of the process from the very beginning," the mayor concluded.
The next appointment will be the meeting with residents, where the construction schedule will be set. Until then, the awarding process continues administratively with the two submitted offers on the table.
