The Fuengirola City Council has begun the comprehensive renovation works on Sevilla Street, a project costing €947,829.31 funded by the Provincial Council of Málaga with a deadline of 138 days. The mayor, Ana Mula, visited the site, which started on Wednesday, September 9.

The mayor of Fuengirola, Ana Mula, visited the site on Tuesday accompanied by the councillor in charge, José Sánchez, to check on the progress of an intervention affecting approximately 300 linear meters of the road. The works began on Wednesday, September 9, two days later than the date agreed with the residents (Monday 7), a delay that the City Council attributes to the holiday celebrated in Málaga city, which, according to the Council, does not alter the planned schedule.
The renovation includes the renewal of water supply pipelines to homes and businesses, improvements to existing infrastructure and services, and a complete transformation of the surface space to enhance accessibility, safety, and comfort for pedestrians. The project will largely maintain the current parking spaces, one of the conditions that residents had requested to preserve.
“We have fulfilled the commitment we made to the residents, and the works have already begun,” stated Mayor Ana Mula.
Mula explained that the City Council has held meetings with residents to inform them about the planning of the works and thanked them for their cooperation regarding any inconveniences the project may cause. “We know that any work on a street where many people live and work can cause some disturbances, but we also know that it was a necessary and highly demanded intervention. That is why we wanted to be close to the residents, inform them, and fulfil the commitment we had made to them,” added the mayor.
The renovation of Sevilla Street is part of a series of municipal interventions in the area. During the current term, the City Council has carried out the renovation of San José Square and the small square located between Triana, San Salvador, and Sevilla streets, as well as the replacement of the supply network in the painters' neighbourhood. These actions total an investment of over €700,000.
