The Sports Department of Vélez-Málaga opens this Wednesday 16 September the new winter sports season 2026/2027, with a programme of 335 courses and nearly 7,000 places. The activities are distributed among the urban area, Torre del Mar, Caleta de Vélez, and Benajarafe.
The Sports Councillor, Manuel Gutiérrez, has stated that the aim is for every resident to find an activity suited to their age and level close to home.
“Our goal is for each person to find an activity that meets their needs, regardless of their age or level, and to be able to do it close to home,” Gutiérrez declared.
Swimming accounts for the largest volume: 152 courses and 2,729 places, ranging from familiarisation and splashing to advanced techniques, including inclusive swimming, Aquafitness, and Aquagym. These are held at the Vélez-Málaga pool and the José Eduardo Hernández pool in Torre del Mar.
The gym activities total 96 courses and 2,336 places for indoor cycling, functional training, maintenance for seniors, Pilates, weight training, and toning, at the covered pool gym in Vélez-Málaga, the Paco Aguilar pavilion, and the facilities in Caleta de Vélez.
Paddle tennis offers 49 courses and 293 places in Vélez-Málaga, Torre del Mar, Benajarafe, and Caleta de Vélez, while tennis includes four courses and 26 places in Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar.
The programme also includes 34 courses and 325 places for sports and health in collaboration with ASEFCA: Back School, Active Pregnancy, and obesity and physical exercise programmes, at the pools in Vélez-Málaga and Torre del Mar.
The Municipal Sports Games celebrate their 45th edition with over 1,000 places for minors born between 2011 and 2021. The fee is 35 euros in a single payment and training starts on Monday 21 September, with the season running until 31 May 2027.
Registrations can be formalised in person at the points set up by the Sports Department or through the municipal online platform, depending on the activity and availability of places.
