The Málaga Provincial Council promotes the second edition of the Summer Campus of Bullfighting in Fuengirola, from July 27 to August 1, with a tribute to master Antonio Ordóñez on the 75th anniversary of his alternative.
The Málaga Provincial Council has presented the second edition of the Summer Campus of Bullfighting, which will take place in Fuengirola from July 27 to August 1. The initiative, organised together with the Costa del Sol Bullfighting School and the La Torería Association, is supported by the Fuengirola City Council. The programme pays tribute to master Antonio Ordóñez on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of his alternative.
Theoretical and Practical Training at El Boquetillo and the Bullring
The theoretical activities will be held at the Tenencia de Alcaldía de El Boquetillo, from 10:00 to 12:15. They will feature the participation of bullfighters Luis Francisco Esplá, Francisco Rivera Ordóñez, and the local Paco Ceballos. Journalists Paco Aguado, Pedro Toledano, and Manolo Fernández Maldonado, French breeder Olivier Martín, and enthusiast Antonio Hidalgo will also take part.
The bullfighting classes will be taught at the Fuengirola bullring, from 18:00 to 21:00, coordinated by bullfighter Luis Reina. Alongside him, teachers from various bullfighting schools in the province will participate, including Fernando Cámara, José María Fijo “El Ciento”, Javier Orozco, and Jesús Márquez.
A Campus Open to Young People and Enthusiasts
The campus will bring together students from the bullfighting schools in the province, but it will also be open to young people and enthusiasts interested in participating. Registration is free and can be done via email at escuelataurinacostadelsol@gmail.com. For the residents of Fuengirola, this is an opportunity to get close to the bullfighting world without leaving the municipality.
The president of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, highlighted that “this event is yet another demonstration of the unity and strength of the bullfighting schools in the province.” Salado emphasised that “for the Provincial Council, the bullfighting schools are one of the reasons for the existence of the Unit of Bullfighting Affairs, and all resources allocated to them contribute to the education and training of future bullfighting figures.”
The director of the Costa del Sol Bullfighting School, Francisco Porras, noted that “we are experiencing an extraordinary moment for bullfighting in the province of Málaga, and we are making Fuengirola one of the epicentres of that moment.”
Nocturnal Closing on August 1
The closing will take place on Saturday, August 1, at 21:00 with a nocturnal practical class featuring students from the Costa del Sol Bullfighting School. This final event promises to be a visual spectacle at the Fuengirola bullring, illuminated for the occasion. For local enthusiasts, it is an unmissable event that concludes a week of intense training.
With this second edition, the Málaga Provincial Council reinforces its commitment to bullfighting as a cultural manifestation rooted in the province. The campus not only trains future bullfighters but also brings this tradition closer to young people, ensuring its survival. And, hey, if one is not a big fan of bullfighting, they can always attend the journalists' talks, which promise to be full of anecdotes and bullfighting wisdom.
