A minor has been arrested in Fuengirola accused of assaulting a local police officer last weekend, according to the City Council. The events occurred when a patrol observed the young person riding a bicycle performing stunts in a pedestrian area of the town centre.
Chase to Moncayo Street
The officers signalled for the minor to stop several times, but he ignored them and fled. The chase ended on Moncayo Street, where they finally managed to intercept him. Several citizens who witnessed the scene helped the police to subdue the young man.
During the interception, the minor resisted and delivered several punches to the face of one of the officers. The assaulted officer had to receive medical attention for the injuries sustained, although the severity of these has not been disclosed.
Two charges and municipal support
After the arrest, the Local Police contacted the minor's father to inform him. The officers filed two charges against the young person: one for reckless driving and another for disobedience to authority. The City Council has expressed its support for the assaulted officer and thanked the public for their cooperation.
The incident has raised concerns among the residents of Fuengirola, who view such behaviours in the town centre with unease. The pedestrian area where the events took place is frequented by families and tourists, which could have led to an accident. The minor, whose identity has not been revealed due to being underage, is at the disposal of the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.
The City Council has reminded that reckless cycling is punishable and that public cooperation is key to maintaining safety. The assaulted officer is recovering at home, according to municipal sources.
