The Málaga City Council has reopened the Water Park after closing it preventively on June 19 due to a possible gastroenteritis outbreak among schoolchildren. Analyses confirm that the water meets all health parameters.
The Málaga City Council reopened the Water Park on Thursday, located on the Antonio Banderas promenade, after analyses ruled out its connection to a gastroenteritis outbreak that affected a group of schoolchildren. The facilities, which are free to access, are operational again from 11:00 to 20:00 hours.
Preventive closure and analysis with no news
The park was closed on June 19 as a precaution after a notification from the Public Health Service of the Junta de Andalucía. A group of schoolchildren who had been to the beach and visited the park showed symptoms of gastroenteritis, although it was never confirmed that the source was in this area.
Despite the lack of evidence, the Environmental Sustainability Department decided to act with firmness. The regulation tank was emptied for cleaning and waterproofing, the entire surface was disinfected, and the water pumping and treatment system was checked.
Once the tasks were completed, quality control samples were taken. The results, now available, confirm that the water meets all the physical-chemical and microbiological parameters required by current regulations.
Safety measures and summer hours
The Water Park features nine water play elements that operate with drinking water and a chlorination and recirculation system that minimizes consumption. These facilities, designed for hot days, will remain open until September 30.
Residents of the Carretera de Cádiz district and the entire city can once again enjoy this free space, which has become a very popular leisure resource during the summer. Those who visit these days can do so with the peace of mind knowing that the water has been tested and is completely safe.
The City Council reminds that the park has no depth and is designed for young children to play without risk. The reopening comes just in time for the weekend, when a significant influx of families is expected.
“We have prioritised the health of users above all, even though there was no certainty of the link to the outbreak,” municipal sources state.
A summer without shocks
The news comes as a relief to those who feared that the gastroenteritis outbreak could ruin the summer season in one of the busiest leisure spaces in the area. Fortunately, the analyses have dispelled the doubts.
The Water Park has become a benchmark for free leisure in Málaga. Its closure, although brief, generated some uncertainty among families who had already planned visits. Now, with the reopening, normality returns to a space that, like good weather, seems essential in summer.
For those who want to visit, the hours are from 11:00 to 20:00, and access is free. A great option to cool off without spending a euro and with the guarantee that the water is in perfect condition.
