The province of Málaga recorded seven earthquakes this Saturday, all with a magnitude below 2 degrees and not felt by the population. The epicentres were located in the municipalities of Campillos, Ardales, and Valle de Abdalajís.

Between 08:08 and 17:35 hours on Saturday, the National Geographic Institute (IGN) counted seven seismic movements in the province of Málaga, concentrated in the Guadalteba region and the Guadalhorce Valley. Most of the tremors had their epicentre in the municipality of Campillos, although they were also recorded in Ardales and Valle de Abdalajís.

The first earthquake occurred at 08:08 hours in Campillos, with a magnitude of 1.9 and a depth of 11 kilometres. At 11:25 hours, a second earthquake of 1.5 and 18 kilometres deep was located in Ardales. Shortly after, at 13:32 and 13:41 hours, two consecutive movements in Campillos, both with a magnitude of 1.8, at 4 and 6 kilometres deep respectively.

At 14:10 hours, the IGN detected another tremor in Valle de Abdalajís, measuring 1.8 and 6 kilometres deep. The sixth movement occurred at 17:33 hours in Campillos, with a magnitude of 2.0 and only 3 kilometres deep. Finally, at 17:35 hours, a seventh earthquake of 1.7 in Valle de Abdalajís, at a superficial level (0 km).

Despite the shallow depth of some of them, none were felt by the population due to their low magnitude. The interior area of Málaga is known for its moderate seismic activity, although there had not been so many tremors in a single day for several months. The IGN maintains constant monitoring and reminds that these phenomena are common in the region, given its proximity to active faults.

Experts indicate that this type of seismic swarm does not usually precede movements of greater intensity, but recommend that citizens remain calm and follow civil protection guidelines in the event of a significant earthquake. The IGN has updated its real-time seismicity map, where all recorded events can be consulted.

For the residents of Campillos, Ardales, and Valle de Abdalajís, the day passed normally, with no reported material damage or incidents. Local authorities have reminded the importance of having a family emergency plan, especially in areas with some seismic recurrence. The sequence of this Saturday serves as a reminder that Málaga is a province with tectonic activity, although most earthquakes go unnoticed.
