The Vélez-Málaga City Council has relaunched the tender for the completion of the Las Biznagas development in Benajarafe, with an updated budget of €1,496,923.79 and an execution period of eight months.
The Vélez-Málaga City Council has relaunched the tender for the completion of the Las Biznagas development in Benajarafe, with an updated budget of €1,496,923.79 and an execution period of eight months. The project, which was left deserted in its first call in August 2025, is now back on the Public Sector Contracting Platform with a revised investment to reflect the rising costs in the construction sector.
The action includes a comprehensive intervention in the development, with repairs and improvements to streets, sidewalks, and pavements, renewal of signage, conditioning of facilities, and enhancement of public lighting. Deteriorated areas will also be repaired and urban elements replaced, as detailed in the municipal project.
One of the central focuses will be the recovery of green areas, which will incorporate new plantings, automated irrigation systems, paths, benches, litter bins, resting spaces, and new lighting points. The project also includes a new children's play area adapted to current safety and accessibility standards, as well as improvements to access and the provision of urban furniture.
The works also foresee the reurbanisation of several roads, with the widening of sidewalks to reach two metres in width, and intervention in pedestrian passages to restore the widths established in the Partial Plan, improve accessibility, and renew their urban and landscaped elements. The aim is to create more comfortable, safe, and functional routes that connect the different areas of the development.
The mayor of Vélez-Málaga, Jesús Lupiáñez, has defended the new tender as a demonstration that the government team "does not settle for merely initiating procedures, but works to resolve difficulties and make projects a reality." Lupiáñez recalled that when the first call was deserted, it was decided to review and update the budget to adapt it to the current market situation and ensure the execution of an action "that has been waiting too many years for a definitive solution."
The deputy mayor of Benajarafe and Chilches, Rocío Ruiz, has described the new push as "magnificent news for the residents of Las Biznagas and for all of Benajarafe," highlighting that the City Council has maintained its commitment to the action and has continued to work to overcome the difficulties of the previous procedure. For his part, the councillor for Infrastructure, Jesús María Claros, has emphasised that this is a very comprehensive action that will address both the urban elements with deficiencies and the creation and improvement of green spaces, resting areas, lighting, accessibility, and safety.
Interested companies will be able to submit their offers electronically through the Public Sector Contracting Platform until 12 August 2026. With this new tender, the City Council hopes to complete a development that has been pending for years and respond to a long-standing demand from local residents.
