The Nerja Town Hall has congratulated the teams involved in the fire that broke out yesterday on the Maro cliffs, which was swiftly controlled.

The Nerja Town Hall has conveyed its congratulations and gratitude to the emergency services and security forces that participated in extinguishing the fire declared yesterday on the Maro cliffs. Among the teams are Firefighters, INFOCA, Local Police, Guardia Civil, and Nerja Civil Protection.

The rapid action and coordination of the teams allowed for the swift control and extinguishing of the fire, preventing the flames from spreading to an area of great natural and scenic value. The fire, which broke out on Thursday, did not affect homes or cause personal injuries.

The mayor, José Alberto Armijo, highlighted the work of all those involved in the operation. “I want to express our recognition and gratitude to all the professionals who intervened in this fire. Once again, they have demonstrated their immense professionalism, their responsiveness, and their commitment to protecting our neighbours and our natural heritage,” he stated.

“I want to express our recognition and gratitude to all the professionals who intervened in this fire. Once again, they have demonstrated their immense professionalism, their responsiveness, and their commitment to protecting our neighbours and our natural heritage.”

Armijo also emphasised the importance of taking extra precautions during the summer months and acting responsibly to avoid any risk situations, especially in natural areas like the surroundings of Maro. The weather conditions, with high temperatures and low humidity, favour the spread of fires at this time.

The incident has highlighted the coordination among the different bodies, which acted together from the very beginning. Local residents have expressed their relief at the swift resolution of the incident, which could have had much more serious consequences.

The Town Hall reminds that, in case of any signs of smoke or fire, one should immediately call 112. Additionally, citizens are urged to follow prevention recommendations, such as not throwing cigarette butts or conducting burns in forested areas.
