In Torremolinos, the Summer School has held the drawing competition titled "Your Perfect Day", in which various children from the locality have participated. This event was promoted by the territorial delegation of Social Services, Families and Equality of the Junta de Andalucía.
Laura Valle, the territorial delegate, attended the awards ceremony held at the “Isabel Manoja” Community Development Centre, where the talent and creativity of the children participating in the summer programme were recognised. This competition is part of the activities of the Summer School, managed by the entity Nueva Alternativa de Intervención y Mediación (NAIM).
Importance of the Summer School
Delegate Valle emphasised the essential role of the Summer School, which has been taking place in Torremolinos since 2019. According to Valle, such initiatives are fundamental to providing a safe and educational environment for children, especially in disadvantaged areas like Torremolinos Norte.
“These programmes allow families not to lose job opportunities due to balancing work and family life,” Valle highlighted, stressing the need for support in a municipality with high demand in the tourism sector during the summer months.
Project details and funding
The project, which has the collaboration of the Torremolinos City Council, provides care for 36 children aged between 3 and 15 years. In addition to providing educational support and recreational activities, the programme ensures the participants are fed with breakfasts, lunches, and snacks.
This year, a total of 1,166 children are participating in the 25 Summer Schools in the province of Málaga, which receive a budget of 850,000 euros for their execution. The schools are primarily aimed at disadvantaged areas and have the fundamental objective of ensuring food security and educational development through leisure activities.
The activities of the Summer Schools are part of a grant call from the Ministry of Social Services, Families and Equality, and align with the Corresponsables Plan of the Ministry of Equality, seeking to ensure equal opportunities for children.
