The event, which pays tribute to Ayo, combines asphalt and sand on the Promenade. The races will start at 19:00 with the younger categories and culminate with the absolute events.
The XXXII Media Legua Playa de Burriana-Homenaje Ayo will take place next Friday, August 28, in Nerja, as announced this Tuesday by the Town Hall and the Nerja Athletics Club. The competition, one of the most traditional summer events in the municipality, will once again take place along the Promenade of Burriana beach, with a route that maintains its hallmark: a stretch on the beach sand.
The circuit, measuring 2,750 meters per lap, will require participants in the absolute categories to complete three laps, totaling a distance of 8,250 meters. The combination of asphalt and sand makes this event one of the most demanding on the local calendar, as highlighted by the organisers.
The sporting day will begin at 19:00 with the Sub8 race, covering 450 meters. At 19:10, it will be the turn of the Sub10, who will run 900 meters, and at 19:20, the Sub12 and Sub14 events will take place, with distances of 1,380 and 1,840 meters respectively.
At 19:35, the women's race will begin, while the men's race will start at 19:55. Both are open to the Sub16, Sub18, Sub20, Sub23, senior, and veteran categories in their various age groups.
Registrations can be made through the website www.nerjaatletismo.es or at the Nerja Athletics Club headquarters, located at 38 Pintada Street. Race numbers will be distributed on the same day of the event, starting at 17:30, at Merendero Ayo.
The Councillor for Sports, Daniel Rivas Maldonado, and the founding member of the Nerja Athletics Club, Enrique López Cuenca, have both emphasised the importance of keeping alive events that are part of Nerja's sporting history. They have encouraged locals and visitors to participate or to support the athletes in such a unique setting as Burriana beach.
The Media Legua pays tribute to Ayo, a figure closely linked to this sporting event, and has established itself as an unmissable date in the summer calendar. The event is free for spectators and a high participation of local athletes and those from nearby municipalities is expected, who take advantage of the occasion to compete in a festive atmosphere.
The Town Hall reminds that the promenade will remain partially closed to traffic during the races, so it is recommended to arrive early to find parking in the designated areas.
