The Vélez-Málaga Town Hall has called on residents to an information day about the new General Plan for Urban Planning (PGOM) on Thursday, July 2 at the Centre of Exile. Urban planning technicians will explain the key points of the document and how to submit objections.
The Vélez-Málaga Town Hall has organised an open talk for all citizens to detail the new General Plan for Urban Planning (PGOM), an instrument that will define the urban development of the municipality for the coming decades. The meeting will take place on Thursday, July 2 at 19:00 at the Centre of Exile, as reported by the Urban Planning Department.
The councillor for the area, Celestino Rivas, has emphasised the importance of bringing this technical tool closer to the homes of the municipality. “We want the new PGOM to be a document known by all. We are talking about the planning of the municipality for the coming decades, and we believe that residents should have all the possible information to understand it and participate actively in this process,” the councillor argued.
During the session, the technicians who drafted the Urban Planning Area will explain in detail the main lines of the plan and will address the doubts of the attendees. The new document aims to update land use to adapt it to current socioeconomic demands. Among its priority objectives are optimising residential land to facilitate access to affordable housing, safeguarding the protection of natural resources in the environment, enhancing business activity areas to boost employment, and improving the network of public infrastructure and facilities.
In addition to reviewing the proposed urban model, municipal technicians will dedicate a significant part of the session to practically explaining the procedure for any individual, group, or professional association to submit suggestions, observations, or objections during the current public exhibition period. The town hall reminds residents that those wishing to consult the complete documentation of the plan before the talk or throughout the month of July can do so directly or by appointment at the offices located in the San Francisco Market, where the citizen participation deadline will definitively expire on July 31.
The previous PGOM dates back to 2004, so this update was highly anticipated to adapt the city to current needs for housing, employment, and sustainability. Citizen participation is key in this process, and the Town Hall expects a high turnout at the information day.
