Ronda begins drafting the POU and PGOM to replace the 1994 urban plan

The City Council of Ronda reported this Tuesday in committee about the scope documents of the Urban Planning Plan and the General Municipal Planning Plan, which will replace the PGOU from 1994.

The City Council of Ronda has taken a firm step in the renewal of its urban planning. The councillor for Urbanism and first deputy mayor, Jesús Vázquez, presented this Tuesday in the Urbanism Commission the scope documents of the Urban Planning Plan (POU) and the General Municipal Planning Plan (PGOM). Both instruments will replace the current General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU), which dates back to 1994 and which the governing team considers obsolete.

The process began in 2022 when the City Council hired the drafting of the new documents from the studio of Juan Carlos García de los Reyes. This same professional has been responsible for the innovation of the PGOU for the protection of the historic ensemble of Ronda, which was approved unanimously.

As Vázquez explained, the next step will be to prepare two documents that incorporate the suggestions presented and the reports gathered so far. Subsequently, a 45-day public exhibition period will be opened for citizens, entities, and groups to submit objections before the initial approval.

“We are facing a very important advance. We have a PGOU that dates back to 1994 and in 2022 we decided to create a new plan. Also, to create the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (PMUS) of Ronda, which is already in force. Now, based on these two documents, we will create a more compact one for initial approval,” the councillor pointed out.

The councillor for Urbanism defended the need for the document to have as much consensus as possible among political groups, in line with the innovation of the PGOU for the protection of the historic ensemble, which was approved unanimously. Vázquez encouraged citizens to participate in the process and consult the documentation available on the municipal website, at www.ronda.es.

“This is a very important document for Ronda, which underpins its modernisation and the city model we have been working on,” he concluded.

The new urban planning seeks to adapt the city to current needs, with a vision of sustainable and orderly development. Citizen participation will be key in the upcoming phases, as residents will be able to submit objections during the public exhibition period.

The City Council is confident that the process will culminate in the definitive approval of the POU and PGOM in the coming months, which will mark a milestone in the urban modernisation of Ronda.
