The Nájera Jazz cycle returns to the Museum of the City of Antequera (MVCA) from July 9 to 11 with three free concerts. Invitations will be available from Monday, July 6.
The Museum of the City of Antequera (MVCA) will once again become the epicentre of jazz this summer with the new edition of Nájera Jazz, which this year expands its programme to three nights of free concerts. The event, part of the Luz de Luna programme, will take place on July 9, 10, and 11 in the museum's courtyard starting at 21:30.
A Line-up with Cuban and Educational Flavour
The Deputy Mayor for Tourism, Commerce, and World Heritage, Ana Cebrián, presented the programme on Friday, July 3, highlighting that Nájera Jazz “is already a tradition” within the summer activities of the museum. After several editions with only two days, the cycle returns to the format of three concerts, offering varied proposals for all audiences.
The night of Thursday, July 9, will feature Valdés Brothers & Francis Posé, a quartet that brings together Jessie and Leyanis Valdés, from the renowned Cuban jazz lineage, along with Málaga musician Francis Posé. The concert promises a sonic journey influenced by the legacy of Bebo and Chucho Valdés, with high-level jazz marked by Cuban rhythms.
On Friday, July 10, the Jitterburg Jazz Group, a Málaga trio with Antequera roots formed by Francisco Palomo Montejo, Miguel Ángel Gil Gutiérrez, and Mario Sánchez Jiménez, will take the stage. Their repertoire ranges from blues and standards to bossa nova, boleros, or pop, with an approach that Cebrián has described as “a more educational and accessible jazz for anyone wanting to get closer to this musical style.”
A Night to Dance in Havana
The grand finale will arrive on Saturday, July 11, with the Bernaldez Latin Jazz Orchestra and their show “A Night in Havana.” This ensemble of ten musicians will evoke the sound of mid-20th century Havana music, with Latin and Cuban rhythms that invite dancing. “It’s going to be a night to get up and dance because they are coming to offer an authentic show,” the councillor stated.
Ana Cebrián expressed her satisfaction with “the fantastic line-up” prepared, emphasizing the MVCA's work to offer a programme “of very high quality” with differentiated proposals for each night. The concerts are free, but require an invitation, which can be collected from Monday, July 6, at the museum, with a maximum of two per person and concert until capacity is reached.
How to Enjoy Nájera Jazz 2026
The courtyard of the MVCA, a central and accessible space in the heart of Antequera, will be the stage for these musical evenings. The councillor encouraged both Antequerans and visitors to “enjoy a good time at the end of the day” in a particularly pleasant setting. Invitations will be given out on a first-come, first-served basis, so it is recommended to arrive early to secure a spot.
Nájera Jazz has established itself as an unmissable event in Antequera's cultural summer since its inception in 2013, and this edition promises to keep the bar high. With three nights of live jazz, the cycle offers a unique opportunity to enjoy music in a historic setting, at no cost, with proposals ranging from the most classic to the most danceable.
