The Junta de Andalucía finances two training programs in Archidona with 800,000 euros for 30 long-term unemployed individuals, who will receive a scholarship for one year to specialise in electricity and masonry.

The 30 selected students in Archidona will not only learn a trade but will also receive a scholarship while they train. The Employment delegate, Carmen Sánchez Sierra, visited the Nororma building on Tuesday to oversee the start of the workshops, which will last for twelve months.

Two professional certificates in one year

The participants will obtain two professional certificates: one in residential electricity and another in masonry. The Junta's investment amounts to 800,000 euros, a sum that covers scholarships and training materials.

“You have been selected and you have a job because you will acquire the necessary training skills to later develop the profession,” Sánchez Sierra told the students. The delegate highlighted that the job market currently absorbs almost all professionals in these sectors.

The mayor of Archidona, Juan Manuel Almohalla, emphasised the shortage of these profiles. “These are really trades that are very much needed. The construction and installation activity is very limited due to the lack of professionals,” he explained. For Almohalla, these workshops are key for generational change and to meet local demand.

A factory in Humilladero, immediate job opportunity

Sánchez Sierra announced the upcoming opening of a major factory in Humilladero that will require electricians and technicians. This project will provide an immediate job opportunity for the students from Archidona, who will be able to apply for those positions once they complete their training.

At the provincial level, the investment in this type of workshop schools amounts to 18 million euros, a figure that reflects the Junta's commitment to training for employment in the province of Málaga.

The residents of Archidona and the Nororma region will benefit from this initiative, which not only trains unemployed individuals but also addresses a real need in the productive fabric. The lack of qualified electricians and masons is a problem affecting many localities, and this program aims to alleviate it.

The courses are taught in the Nororma building, a space that has already hosted other training initiatives. The students, selected from the long-term unemployed in the municipality, will combine theory and practice for a year. In the end, they will obtain two certificates that will qualify them to work in new construction, renovations, or electrical installations.

The initiative has been well received by the locals, who see it as a real employment opportunity. “It is very practical training with job prospects,” commented one of the participants as they left the event. The Junta hopes that this model will be replicated in other municipalities in the province.
