The Ministry of Development and Mobility is taking advantage of the nights in August to renew the surface of the A-92 over 22 kilometres between Mollina, Antequera and Archidona. The work is part of a regional plan worth 151.5 million euros.
The A-92 will undergo a comprehensive renewal of its surface in the section that runs through the interior of the province of Málaga over the coming weeks. The Ministry of Development and Mobility of the Junta de Andalucía has initiated work on 22 kilometres of the motorway between the municipalities of Mollina, Antequera and Archidona, framed within the Extraordinary Paving Plan.
The works are being carried out at night to minimise disruption to traffic on one of the main communication arteries of the province. Machinery enters the road when traffic is lighter, a decision that also aims to protect the safety of workers while they are on the road.
A first phase of the intervention has already been completed during this month of August. According to the forecasts from the Ministry, the next actions will continue during the last week of August and the first week of September, focusing on the points where technicians have detected the greatest deterioration of the pavement.
The programme is not limited to laying a new layer of asphalt. It includes the repair of soft spots and potholes, milling and replacement of the pavement, recovery of lower layers, sealing of the surface and repainting of horizontal signage. There will also be work on containment systems, lighting, expansion joints and traffic counting stations, with the aim of intervening comprehensively where wear and tear requires it.
This action is part of a regional plan endowed with 151.5 million euros, which the Junta describes as the largest investment in surface improvements in Andalucía in the last twenty years. Of that amount, 17.5 million corresponds to the province of Málaga, where it is planned to act on around a dozen roads.
The programme has already reached the Guadalhorce Motorway (A-357) a few weeks ago, where ten kilometres of the section closest to the capital of Málaga were renewed, also at night. In the case of the A-92, the new works add to the actions carried out in recent years through various conservation programmes.
The Minister of Development, Mario Muñoz-Atanet, estimates that nearly 90 kilometres of the surface has been recently renewed on this motorway and emphasises that the new plan will allow for continued maintenance. At the Andalusian level, the programme plans to intervene in around 1,000 kilometres corresponding to 137 regional roads. Only on the A-92 will work be carried out on 126 kilometres spread across the provinces of Almería, Granada, Málaga and Sevilla.
For drivers who use the A-92 daily, the night works aim to ensure that the renewal is barely noticeable during their journeys. However, it is recommended to exercise extreme caution in the construction zones and to respect the temporary signage over the coming weeks.
