The town of Azuqueca de Henares, in Guadalajara, was the scene of a significant operation by the Civil Guard that resulted in the seizure of over five kilograms of cocaine. The drug was hidden in a saddle that had been sent from Colombia.
The operation, known as “Gavilanes”, began when a suspicious postal shipment was detected. Agents from the Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking Team (EDOA) set up a device to intercept the recipients of the package.
Arrests and findings
As part of this investigation, three people were arrested. One of these arrests occurred when an individual, despite being informed that he was not the legitimate recipient of the shipment, attempted to take possession of the saddle.
Subsequently, investigators located the original recipient, who was also arrested. During a home search of one of them, the detainee barricaded himself in a room and fired at the agents before being subdued.
In this search, another 928 grams of cocaine were found, as well as 1,650 grams of caffeine and three litres of methyl ethyl ketone, in addition to a hydraulic press and other materials related to drug preparation.
Seizure of weapons
Apart from the narcotic substance, the agents also found five firearms, two air guns, and a total of 253 cartridges of various calibres. This extensive arsenal evidences the level of organisation of the criminal group.
