The Battery Park in Torremolinos will host the premiere of 'Composiciones 2/3' on Saturday, 18th July, a musical theatre show that pays tribute to the Generation of '27, with free entry.
The Málaga Provincial Council, through its Cultural Centre of the Generation of '27, has promoted the premiere of 'Composiciones 2/3', a musical theatre show that honours the poets and thinkers of the Generation of '27. The event will take place on Saturday, 18th July at 21:30 in the Battery Park of Torremolinos, with free entry until capacity is reached.
An Embrace Between Music, Theatre, and Poetry
During an hour-long outdoor performance, the audience will witness a meeting that stages the embrace between music, theatre, and poetry, bringing together five key figures of '27: María Zambrano, Federico García Lorca, Rafael Alberti, Josefina de la Torre, and María Teresa León. The play, produced by the Málaga company Producciones Alfresquito, is directed by Virginia Nölting.
The Vice President and Cultural Councillor of the Málaga Provincial Council, Manuel López Mestanza, has framed the premiere within “the extensive programming with which the provincial institution is heading towards the commemoration of the centenary of the Generation of '27.” He highlighted that “this commitment to the anniversary will have its epicentre in the rehabilitated Valdeflores Palace and is also celebrating the 100 years of two key Málaga milestones for the emergence of the brilliant group of '27: the Imprenta Sur and the Revista Litoral.”
Torremolinos, Meeting Place of '27'
López Mestanza emphasised that the close relationship between the Generation of '27 and Torremolinos is “still very much alive.” “Luis Cernuda placed the ‘Sansueña’ of his happiness in Torremolinos; there, almost a century ago, the iconic meeting by the sea took place between the Málaga members of '27 with Salvador Dalí and Gala; and in 1968, at this same point on the Costa del Sol, the Revista Litoral was revived by José María Amado, which is still published from its Torremolinos office,” he enumerated.
The show is supported by the Torremolinos Town Hall, which has provided the emblematic stage of Battery Park, an outdoor space with sea views that has already witnessed the meetings of the '27 poets. For the residents of the Costa del Sol, it is a unique opportunity to enjoy a quality cultural proposal without leaving the province and with free access.
Five Actors and Two Musicians on Stage
The proposal features five Málaga actors on stage, embodying the authors of '27 themselves. Carmen Baquero plays María Zambrano; David Mena, Federico García Lorca; Francisca Díaz, María Teresa León; Rafa Castillo-Romero, Rafael Alberti; and Virginia Nölting, Josefina de la Torre. The production also includes the participation of two musicians: Miguel Olmedo as musical director and Ana Paz on piano and guitar.
The direction and script of the show are signed by Nölting, while Vanessa López has taken charge of co-direction and stage movement. Nölting explained that 'Composiciones 2/3' invokes the transcendence of the sea and becomes “a friendly place for our poets of '27.” The play invites the audience to cross the threshold of time and inhabit these genuine compositions in their most beautiful freedom, showing the five creators “weaving verses, loving, laughing, dancing, and singing.”
For poetry and theatre lovers, this performance is a must-see. The capacity is limited, so arriving early is recommended. Entry is free, and the show promises a magical evening under the stars, recalling the free and creative spirit of a generation that marked Spanish literature.
