The City Council of Antequera commemorated International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day with the reading of a manifesto at the Youth Centre, advocating for an equal society.

The mayor of Antequera, Manuel Barón, opened the event highlighting that the city "wants to demonstrate the value of diversity in an equal society" and defended that "human values are above any thought or ideology." He emphasised that all people are equal "in rights, in duties, and in everything that entails our sentimental, emotional, and personal expression."

The reading of the manifesto was carried out by Berni Muriana, who, upon finishing, added some personal words to highlight the years of work for the rights of the LGTBIQ+ community and the importance of celebrating this date. Several councillors from the governing team and members of the public attended the event, who posed for a family photo at the end.

The manifesto, read in full, reaffirmed the commitment to the principles of freedom, equality, and dignity enshrined in the Spanish Constitution. It reminded that the Magna Carta recognises equality before the law without discrimination on the grounds of birth, race, sex, religion, opinion, or any other condition. It also pointed out that Pride Day serves to protect individual rights and freedoms, allowing each citizen to develop their life project in freedom and without exclusion.

The text stressed that society is strengthened by mutual respect, tolerance, and equality of rights and duties. "Coexistence does not require uniformity, but rather the recognition that people with different convictions, circumstances, and ways of life can share a common space," the manifesto stated. Public administrations, it added, must promote a civic culture that fosters respect, rejects intolerance and violence, and guarantees equal opportunities from a democratic pluralism.

Antequera thus joins the Pride events celebrated throughout Spain, although with a local and advocacy-focused approach. The City Council renewed its commitment to a city where no one is discriminated against for their personal condition and where individual freedom is protected. "Let us continue building a freer, more respectful, and more cohesive society," the manifesto concluded.

The event concluded with a call to continue working for real equality and the visibility of the LGTBIQ+ community in all areas. The Youth Centre, the venue for the event, became a space for gathering and advocacy on a day that gains more relevance in the municipal calendar each year.
