The Mijas Town Hall is taking advantage of the summer break to renovate the Casa de la Cultura in Las Lagunas, a building that had not received painting work for eight years. The works, which will conclude this week, also include a thorough cleaning.
The Mijas Town Hall is carrying out painting and maintenance work at the Casa de la Cultura in Las Lagunas, a building that has not undergone this type of work for eight years. The councillor for Operational Services, Daniel Gómez, explained that the work focuses on the façade and the roof, as well as the interior of the building.
“We want to present a well-maintained and clean building, which is why we decided to carry out this plan,” Gómez stated. The work is being carried out during the summer period, when there are no classes, to avoid interfering with academic activities.
Inside, the different rooms have been painted and the usual maintenance tasks, highly requested by students and teachers, have been carried out. Additionally, a thorough cleaning of the building is underway, along with the repair of water leaks, as detailed by the councillor for the Popular University (UP), Silvia Marín.
The Casa de la Cultura in Las Lagunas is one of the main centres of the UP, which has around 4,000 users. Therefore, both Marín and Gómez have emphasised the importance of the building being in perfect condition. The works have been ongoing for three weeks and are expected to be completed this week, after which the work will move to Mijas Pueblo.
Regarding registration for the next academic year, the deadline for non-residents will begin at the end of August. Marín indicated that the quota is almost full due to the high demand from users, which she described as good news.
