The town of Cortes de la Frontera was the setting for the ‘Drive Your Future’ initiative, organised by the Junta of Andalusia on November 4, 2026. This programme aims to promote responsible driving decisions among young people and prevent risky behaviours, particularly the consumption of alcohol and drugs.

The activity took place at the IES Andrés Pérez Serrano and involved the participation of health professionals, firefighters, and members of the Local Police. Additionally, the initiative is part of the Comprehensive Accident Care Plan of Andalusia (PIAAC), coordinated by IAVANTE of the Andalusian Public Foundation for Progress and Health in collaboration with the local council and the Department of Educational Development and Vocational Training.

Activities and learnings

Students participated in a circuit divided into four stations that included interactive activities and simulations of emergency situations. During these activities, attendees learned about the common causes of traffic accidents, the response of emergency teams, and the physical and emotional consequences that can arise from an accident.

The simulations included the use of specialised glasses that mimic the effects of alcohol and drug consumption. Furthermore, students collaborated with firefighters and police in simulated accident scenarios and learned about the initial care provided by 061 to victims, as well as the rehabilitation process following an accident.

The day concluded with the testimony of a person affected by a spinal cord injury, presented by the Association of People with Spinal Cord Injury and Other Physical Disabilities (ASPAYM). This account aimed to provide a close perspective on the real consequences of reckless driving.

Impact and projections

The ‘Drive Your Future’ campaign has been designed to deliver its message to educational centres across Andalusia, with support from the territorial delegations of Health and Consumption and Education, as well as various local councils and participating professionals.

In its 2025 edition, the initiative reached 800 students from Secondary and Baccalaureate across the eight Andalusian provinces, with the collaboration of over a hundred professionals. Additionally, the programme has been recognised as the best workshop at the Congress of the Spanish Society of Clinical Simulation and Patient Safety (SESSEP) in 2026.

The ultimate goal of ‘Drive Your Future’ is to establish accident prevention as a public health priority and to raise awareness among young people about the importance of making the right decisions before driving.
