The Mijas Tourist Office hosts the exhibition 'Memory of the Rocks' by Jessica Persson until August 28, which combines ceramics and photography to explore the memory of the landscape.
The Mijas Tourist Office, located at Avenida Virgen de la Peña, 2, has been hosting the exhibition 'Memory of the Rocks' since this Monday and will continue until August 28. This proposal from artist Jessica Persson brings together works of ceramics and photography inspired by nature and the landscape. The exhibition invites reflection on matter, time, and memory through a journey where the natural environment becomes both a source of inspiration and a protagonist.
The Councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez, has emphasised the municipality's commitment to bringing culture closer to both residents and visitors through municipal spaces. “We continue to invest in a cultural programme that enriches the experience of those who visit Mijas and energises spaces like the Tourist Office. We want those who choose us as a destination to discover that Mijas offers much more than sun and beach, with a vibrant and quality cultural offer throughout the year,” he stated.
The exhibition explores the material essence of the natural world through a dialogue between ceramics and photography. Under the title Memory of the Rocks, Persson reflects on the geological memory of rocks and minerals, but also on the emotional memory that remains in landscapes and in matter. The works showcase processes of erosion, transformation, permanence, and resilience, turning each piece into a testament to the passage of time.
“From the Tourism Department, we want the Tourist Office to also be a meeting point for art and creativity, a space that surprises those who visit us and serves as a showcase for high-level cultural proposals,” Jerez added.
Jessica Persson, a multidisciplinary artist trained at the Atelier de Sèvres School of Art in Paris, the Skånska Målarskolan Painting Academy in Malmö, and holding a degree in Higher Artistic Education in Ceramics from the San Telmo School of Art in Málaga, explained that her work arises from an intimate relationship with nature and a creative process deeply linked to the landscape. “Each work emerges from a direct dialogue with nature. I work with clay outdoors whenever possible, allowing the landscape itself to be part of the creative process. I am interested in having the pieces convey that connection with the earth and the passage of time,” she stated.
Persson has a special fascination for the transformation of clay through fire, a moment she considers decisive in the creation of each work. Her pieces, hand-shaped and inspired by the textures and fragments of the landscape, sit on the border between functional objects and sculpture, inviting both visual contemplation and a sensory experience. The exhibition is complemented by photographs from Daniel Villalobos, which interact with the ceramic works to offer a joint vision of the silent memory of nature.
The exhibition will remain open to the public until August 28 at the Mijas Tourist Office, from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 14:30 hours. Admission is free and open to all.
