The Málaga Materno Infantil Hospital has inaugurated a photographic exhibition that reflects the experiences of eight women who have overcome breast cancer, in the context of International Breast Cancer Day.
Exhibition Details
Located on the first floor of the hospital, this exhibition showcases portraits accompanied by phrases and personal objects from the protagonists, who share their experiences after the illness. The exhibition highlights the importance of breast reconstruction and micropigmentation as a fundamental part of the recovery process.
Objectives of the Exhibition
The initiative was driven by nurses Mariló Gutiérrez and Cristina Gutiérrez, with the collaboration of Patricia García and photographer Andrés Ojeda. Through this exhibition, the aim is to raise awareness of the physical and emotional impact of breast cancer and to provide real references to other women in similar situations.
According to Auxiliadora Ferrer, Head of the Breast Pathology Section, the approach to breast cancer has evolved towards more personalised treatments, focusing not only on controlling the disease but also on improving the quality of life for patients.
Arminda Ferrer Berges, Director of the Clinical Management Unit of Plastic Surgery and Burns, added that breast reconstruction aims not only to restore physical form but also to enhance patients' comfort with their body image after a mastectomy.
Mariló Gutiérrez explained that the exhibition is based on the experiences of the patients, who have shared their stories to help others going through the same journey. Each narrative reflects the resilience and strength of women, as well as the support received during their recovery.
With this exhibition, the Málaga Materno Infantil Hospital aims to convey a message of hope and realism, showing that each recovery process is unique and that all women can find their own way to cope with the consequences of the illness.
