The Civil Guard has carried out the arrest of three individuals in Almería, accused of being the alleged perpetrators of the murder of Belgian police officer Nordine el Talbi, which occurred in Brussels in the early hours of October 12 to 13.
Arrests due to international cooperation
Spanish authorities, after receiving information from the Belgian Federal Police, initiated actions as it was suspected that the authors of the crime were in Spanish territory. These various alerts had indicated the possible flight of the suspects to Morocco.
As a result, the Civil Guard established a police operation in the vicinity of the port of Almería. During this operation, real-time information exchange with the Belgian police was coordinated.
Operation and media repercussions
Finally, after hours of surveillance, the three individuals were arrested just before attempting to board a vessel to Morocco, despite their attempts to physically resist capture. The operation continued with the issuance of a European Investigation Order, which allowed authorities to access a property connected to the case and search for further evidence.
These arrests have had a significant media impact in Belgium. In a press conference held on October 18, both the prosecutor of the case and the head of the Brussels Federal Police praised the speed and efficiency of the information exchange process between the authorities of both countries.
