The Junta de Andalucía has announced the expansion of the flu vaccination campaign in Málaga to include people over 60 years old and security forces starting tomorrow, October 21.

The first vice president and councillor for the Presidency, Health and Emergencies, Antonio Sanz, has urged the population to get vaccinated, emphasising that the vaccine is essential to prevent complications and protect the most vulnerable.

Groups included in the new vaccination phase

The new phase of vaccination also includes firefighters, civil protection, professionals with direct exposure to animals, and staff from penitentiary institutions. Sanz has reminded those interested to make an appointment at their health centre to receive the dose.

Vaccination pace and new campaigns

The flu vaccination campaign began on October 1, initially aimed at children aged 6 months to 5 years and residents in care homes. Since then, additional groups have been added, starting with those aged 80 and over on October 7, and those over 70 and adults with chronic conditions on October 14.

Additionally, regarding the immunisation of children under 6 months against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Sanz highlighted that an 83.7% coverage has been achieved in this population, with 27,583 out of 32,942 infants vaccinated to date.

This year, for the first time, the vaccination campaign against RSV will include those over 60 living in care homes or undergoing treatment with immunosuppressive drugs.

Starting November 11, vaccination will be available without an appointment at health centres every Wednesday, and vaccination events are being organised in shopping centres.
