The Málaga municipality records an average occupancy of 92.26% in July, according to AEHCOS, surpassing the provincial average of 89.50%. The Councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez, highlights the work to strengthen the destination.

The municipality of Mijas reached a hotel occupancy of 92.26% in July, making it the second destination in the province of Málaga with the best records, according to data published by the Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (AEHCOS). The provincial average stood at 89.50%, a figure that also exceeds the initial forecasts of the employers' association.

From the Tourism Department of the Mijas Town Hall, these results have been valued as a reflection of the municipality's appeal during the high season. The councillor responsible for the area, Francisco Jerez, has stated that “these figures once again demonstrate that Mijas is one of the most attractive tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol.”

“Achieving an occupancy rate above 92% and placing ourselves among the municipalities with the best records in the province is the result of the work we have been doing to offer a quality, competitive destination ready to welcome those who visit us,” the councillor added in a statement.

The town hall attributes these good figures to the strategy implemented to strengthen the positioning of the municipality in the main issuing markets, both national and international. In this sense, the foreign market continues to be the main driver of tourist activity in the province, a trend that also benefits Mijas.

The municipality's offer, which combines beaches, nature, heritage, gastronomy, and a varied agenda of activities, has allowed it to attract a diverse profile of visitors. According to AEHCOS, the average occupancy in the province has been set at 89.50%, exceeding the expectations that the employers' association had for this month.

Francisco Jerez explained that these results are the fruit of ongoing work to advance in the destationalisation of the area. “Our goal is for Mijas to continue being a tourist reference throughout the year,” he insisted, and reminded that efforts are being made in promotion, diversification of the offer, and initiatives to attract quality tourism that generates wealth and employment.

For the rest of the summer, the Tourism Department faces the evolution of the data with optimism. The council is confident in maintaining the occupancy rate during August and September and will continue collaborating with the hotel sector to reinforce Mijas' position as one of the reference destinations on the Costa del Sol.

These figures represent a new boost for the local economy, as high hotel occupancy has a direct effect on employment and consumption in restaurants, shops, and tourist services in the municipality. The proximity to the capital of Málaga and good connections make Mijas a strategic place for visitors looking to combine sun and beach with inland experiences.

The councillor has wanted to highlight the joint work with hotel entrepreneurs and other sector agents, a collaboration he considers key to maintaining the competitiveness of the destination. “We will continue working with the sector to further strengthen Mijas' position,” he concluded.

Looking ahead to the coming months, the Mijas Town Hall plans to maintain promotional campaigns in international markets and continue developing an events programme that encourages visitors to extend their stay or return at other times of the year.
