Málaga hotels are priced between 1,000 and 3,000 euros for the night of August 1 to 2, 2026 due to the total eclipse, with peaks of 7,000 euros. The following week, the same rooms drop to between 130 and 400 euros.

Staying in a hotel in Málaga on the night of August 1 to 2, 2026 costs between 1,000 and 3,000 euros on average, with rates reaching 7,000 euros in some establishments. The reason is the total solar eclipse that will be visible on the morning of August 2, one of the best in the world from the Costa del Sol. This information, reported by Diario Sur, comes from searches on the platforms Trivago and Booking.

The contrast with dates without events is notable: between August 8 and 9, the same accommodations offer rooms for 130 to 400 euros. The sector attributes the price increase to the expected demand, although it clarifies that the most extreme prices are not widespread.

Javier Hernández, vice president of the Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos), describes the rates as "outrageous," although he reduces this to "some specific establishment that wants to take advantage of the opportunity."

"It is possible that the more expensive hotels are planning exclusive events on their terraces to view it, with high-level services"

Hernández explains that prices rise as occupancy increases, and that in cases like the fair or Holy Week, some hotels apply rates based on room usage. Aehcos has not yet made occupancy estimates for those dates.

The Only You Hotel (La Equitativa) is among the most expensive, at around 2,500 euros, according to its director, Ana Paneque. She clarifies that the rate is part of a strategy: "We are a small hotel, with 93 rooms, and we have set a very high starting price to somewhat contain individual bookings."

"We are waiting for groups to arrive, and if they come in the form of individual bookings, the rate is very high because the expectation is for full occupancy throughout the city"

Paneque anticipates requests from international groups, research teams, and enthusiasts who may request up to 30 rooms for longer stays. Regarding the 7,000 euros, she believes that rather than selling at that price, it is used as a containment measure while waiting for groups, especially from the United States.

At the AC Málaga Palacio Hotel, the increase has been smaller: about 900 euros per night, the same rate as during the Copa del Rey in Seville. Its director, Jorge González, notes that they already have a good portion of the rooms committed to a group of Americans who booked before the eclipse was mentioned.

"Here we are not so accustomed to these price hikes because we do not have events like Formula 1"

González points to a contagion effect from news of rentals supposedly at 20,000 euros in northern Spain, and recalls that at events like Formula 1 or the festivals in Venice and Cannes, it is normal to pay between 1,500 and 3,000 euros.
